Dr. Robert is an interdisciplinary scholar and expert whose research is located at the intersections of race, gender, and class with an emphasis on Black women and mass incarceration. She is the author of the peer-reviewed article, “Penitence Plantation and the Penitentiary: A Liberation Theology for Lockdown America” (Harvard Graduate Journal, 2017). Her dissertation is titled, “Breaking The Law When The Law Breaks Us: A Womanist Theo-Ethical Approach to Public Policy and Criminal Justice Advocacy for the Black Church.” Dr. Robert is a public lecturer, global speaker, ordained clergy, clinically-trained healthcare chaplain and teaches religious studies in higher education.

Prison Abolitionist

Dr. Robert is the Founder and Executive Director of Abolitionist Sanctuary©, a faith-based grassroots non-profit organization committed to the intersection of religion and abolition. The mission of Abolitionist Sanctuary is to empower Black churches to embody emancipatory theology and abolitionist principles to repair, restore, and rebuild society. We employ transformative justice strategies to ensure the communal flourishing of poor Black mothers and their families. Our nonpartisan approach to public policy equips religious leaders, laity, and communities to redress societal harms caused by discriminatory policing, criminalization, and mass incarceration.

Preacher

Rev. Dr. Robert is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and founder of Reverend Daughter Ministries. Dr. Robert provides a faith-based social justice ministry through radical preaching and social activism. In addition, she helps churches to connect liberatory teachings and practices to abolitionist ideals . Dr. Robert’s ministry is catapulted by the prophetic mandate to do justice, love kindly and walk humbly.

Dr. Robert is a nationally and internationally sought-after speaker, preacher, lecturer and writer. She has been featured by NPR, Sojourners Magazine, LA Magazine, ABC, NBC and CBS television networks.

Dr. Robert consults individuals, parent groups, educational institutions, corporations and nonprofit organizations on ways to strengthen commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion by increasing social responsibility, core values, and mission-driven outcomes.

Dr. Robert provides faith-based abolitionist training to religious institutions interested in identifying public policies and transformative justice strategies to advocate for system-impacted Black mothers, their families and communities to flourish in a society beyond policing, prisons and punishment.
